Day 26 · Week 04 · Advanced Motifs & Calculation Hygiene

Visualization & Blunder Prevention

Strengthen the ability to hold a position mentally after a move and use that skill to prevent one-move blunders.

Visualization is not seeing a perfect picture in the mind; it is accurately updating what changed. After a candidate move, track captures, opened lines, king safety and loose pieces. Then ask: if I play this, what is the opponent's strongest forcing reply?

Blunder prevention is the practical use of visualization. A three-second final scan can stop a move that hangs a queen, allows mate or walks into a fork.

Training flow: 1. Square-update drill after one move. 2. Two-ply blind update. 3. Blunder-check routine. 4. Candidate move → imagined position → opponent CCT. 5. Timed prevention set.

Common errors: Remembering captured pieces incorrectly. Not updating open lines. Checking own threat but not opponent CCT. Rushing the final move.

Mastery gate: 7/8 correct and zero one-move blunders on final four.

Review: Freeze before each practice move and say: 'After my move, what checks, captures, threats does the opponent get?'
